冷床是中小型棒材车间不可缺少的辅助设备之一。它的功能是将轧机轧制后经飞剪剪切成倍尺长度的棒材, 输送并卸到冷床齿条上冷却, 使其温度由900℃降至100 ～ 300℃。

由冷床入口辊道及升降挡板、横移小车、分钢装置、步进齿条冷床、编成组的圆钢，通过横移小车移送到冷床分钢装置，动齿条每步进一个周期，分钢装置就拨一根钢到静齿条上，使成组的圆钢逐根分配到每一个齿内，由于上冷床的圆钢温度很高。
