按照大清的祖制，皇帝大婚时，皇后要坐轿从故宫的正门午门被抬入皇宫，然后经太和门再向北进入内宫。由于太和门被大火焚毁，一时不可能完全修复，而光绪皇帝的婚期又不可随便更改，慈禧遂责令扎彩工匠临时扎制了一个一模一样的纸太和门，隆裕皇后正是从这座纸太和门进入后宫的。到了冬季，为了防止结冰，专有内务府太监负责在缸外套上校风套保温并加盖，缸底还要烯起炭火，直到来年春暖时才撤火。

铜缸的作用有时候不单单用作于风水，可以在***庭院，广场等地方作为一种装饰品，非常实用。也可以作为一种蓄水工具，在北京故宫里可以看到好多非常大的铜缸，他们用于蓄水防火。默默保卫着故宫几百年的火灾安全，在古时候也被称为太平缸

铁大缸也是铜雕工艺品之一，很多唐县铜雕厂都铸造铁大缸，根据相关的记载可以知道由湖南省收藏协会绥宁县的会员在绥宁县武阳镇民间发现并收集。铁缸用古时传统的泥范法手工制作，鼎身有6圈弦纹（起加强缸体强度的作用），从上往下数，第二圈上有花纹饰。缸身上部两边有四耳，每只耳有一小孔（用于扣环），底部有三个力士神头像（当地人叫缸龙菩萨）用头顶托着缸。大铜缸金光闪闪，在红色宫墙的映衬下，赤行富丽堂后皇，气热血甚壮。这种铁缸在当时是“大户人家”用来贮存饮用水及消防用水的器具。缸身一圈上有铭文:"隆武二年十二月立造水江一口永为古".(“江”就是绥宁方言“缸”的意思)。
